Research paper topic to amaze the reader

Choosing a great topic is the most important part of impressing the reader of a research paper. A great topic can be an enormous advantage when a student is determined to write an outstanding paper that will be remembered by their audience. Here’s why:

First Impressions

You only get one chance to make a first impression, and the very first thing the reader is going to notice about a paper is the topic. If the topic itself doesn’t intrigue them or engage them, it’s going to be tough going forward. Certainly there’s a certain skill in choosing an ostensibly boring topic and then making it interesting, but there’s no reason to make it more difficult on oneself by doing so. It’s far more effective to choose an interesting topic off the bat, because then the topic will do most of the work in holding the audience’s attention.

The Scope of the Topic will Help with Structure

If the student chooses a topic of appropriate scope, it will make structuring and organizing the paper far easier. That is, the student should not choose a topic that is too specific nor should they choose topics that are too broad. A topic that is too broad will be difficult to organize in a clear, straightforward way because there will be simply far too much information to be covered in the course of the paper; the reader will feel either confused by the paper’s purpose or will feel rushed through fact after fact. A topic that is too narrow, on the other hand, will have to provide so much background information that the actual point of the paper may be buried. Scope is also important in that a topic which is too broad will often require that the student leave out pertinent information, which is noticeable to the audience. A topic that is too narrow, on the other hand, may pose too great a challenge in terms of meeting the page requirements, and require a lot of fluff and filler. Neither are going to make a positive impression on the reader.

A Topic That Caters to the Reader’s Background

Students that want to impress their audience should also keep in mind topics that will cater to their readers’ educational and academic backgrounds. That doesn’t mean that it need be a topic that the reader knows about, simply that it’s one that they can delve into and understand within the confines of a research paper.
